How To: Replace A Headlight and Taillight

The bad news: You noticed a headlight on your vehicle went out. The good news: This is a fairly simple repair that can be done at home. Your friends at Leif Johnson are here to take you through the step by steps for replacing headlights from the convenience of home! Here’s what you’ll need: New light bulbs  (Make sure to check online, your local auto or with our service department for what bulbs your vehicle needs.), alcohol wipes and tissues and a Phillips screwdriver Replacing a headlight?  Step 1 : Locate the headlight holder. Access the headlight bulb through your engine compartment. Open your hood and locate the headlight near the front of your vehicle. You will find it in a bulb holder, with a power connector leading to the bulb. Step 2:  Remove power wires. These will be attached to a plug at the base of the headlight and held by a plastic catch, a metal clip or a screw cap. Tips For Extending The Life Of Your Transmission

Your transmission is a vital part of your vehicle, and it is so important to keep yours in the best of conditions. It’s especially important to ensure the health of your transmission is this Texas heat. Leif Johnson Ford is here with some tips on how to keep that transmission in tip-top shape! Change Transmission Fluid This is vital for lubrication and good performance. Check your transmission fluid levels. Low fluid levels or fluid levels that drop quickly might mean you have a leak. Also check your vehicle’s radiator and coolant levels. The radiator controls your engine heat, but it helps your transmission stay at a proper temperature as well. Low or dirty fluids will increase chances of wear and overheating. Change every 15,000 miles or once a year (See owner’s manual). If you have a vehicle that does heavy towing regularly, you will want to check fluids monthly. Use a high-quality synthetic transmission fluid. Vehicle Flushing Tips

This week we took a few minutes to talk to our service tech expert Barry Beard at our Truck City Ford location. He’s the best at quick but handy tips, and this week he gave our viewers some advice on vehicle flushing! This pro makes working under the hood look like a breeze. Take a look, y’all! What to flush: Transmission Flush – Recommended every 30,000 miles. This is to keep the fluid clean and to keep all the detergents/oil. 2.    Brake Fluid- Brake fluid breaks down every two years, and/or 30,000 miles. It begins to naturally take on water. Brake fluid does attract moisture, so it’s very important to make sure you’re keeping it clean. 3. Coolant– Coolant breaks down, especially when you have a vehicle that tows often. You’ll also want to flush your coolant system roughly every 30,000 miles. There are some higher-grade coolants that will claim to work for over 100k miles, but this is not recommended by Ford. 4. Fuel injection service– You can’t see it as easily as the rest, but it is there! This …

How To: Keep Your Car Looking And Smelling New

You know that delightful scent of stepping into a brand new car? Or the feel of gazing at your Ford after its had a detailed car wash? What if we told you that you could keep that new car smell and look with just a few simple steps? Read on, Fordies! Washing the outside: Make sure you are using a proper car soap, not regular soap. Get two buckets. Fill one with soapy water and the other will regular H20. Start by dipping the sponge in soapy water and begin cleaning your car. Alternate to the regular water, removing any debris you may have collected from the car. Rinse and repeat over the entirety of your vehicle. Make sure to dry off your car after soaping. If you don’t, you might end up with unwanted spots. Tip: Try using a microfiber cloth. They work really well!
