Truck Month at Leif Johnson Ford

Leif Johnson Ford is honored to be able to give back to our community in any way that we can. One of our favorite ways to serve our fellow Austinites is by partnering with Susan G. Komen each year for Truck Month.  What is Truck Month? It’s a time period (we would say month, but one month is never quite enough for us!) where our customers help us donate to the fight against breast cancer. For every new F-150 or F-250 purchased, Leif Johnson Ford donates $100 to Susan G. Komen.  This one hundred dollars affords a cancer screening, which could potentially be lifesaving. Susan G. Komen envisions a world without breast cancer. They are the ONLY organization that addresses breast cancer on multiple fronts such as research, community health, global outreach and public policy initiatives in order to make the biggest impact against this disease. Their goal is to reduce the risk of breast cancer deaths by 50% by year 2026. With the help of the community (that’s you and me!), they can help make this goal a reality! …

Employee Highlight: Thomas Ledford

Team Member Thomas Ledford has been a part of our Ford family for TEN years now. We are so grateful for his hard work, dedication and the positivity he brings to our dealership. As our team is the backbone and heart of our business, we wanted to do a quick interview so you could get to know Mr. Thomas a little bit more!   What is your favorite thing about working here: – All the different people. I also love all of the different challenges that come with each day. What you have learned working with us for ten years? – I’ve learned both aspects – from service to parts. I’ve learned about different trends and different vehicles, and all the cool things that come with our new cars. What do you like to do when you’re not at work?: I enjoy sports, going to my freshmen son’s football games in Hutto. And taking our boat out on the lake , dragging the tube around. An travelling! As Thomas was being interviewed, he barely sat still for …

Customer Highlight: Charles Lightfoot

Charles Lightfoot says his 2008 Escape saved his life. He was in an accident and says that the support of the vehicle kept him safe, despite the seriousness of the collision. Mr. Lightfoot has been buying Fords for us for many years, and has bought his past four vehicles from our longtime saleswoman Sonya Saat. Their comradery makes it clear that Charles is part of our treasured Ford family. And we couldn’t be more proud to have him as a longtime customer. Lightfoot is an army veteran who served our country for thirty years, and he now volunteers to help take care of wounded warriors. He comes from a military family and tells us that he’s travelled all over the world, “at least once.” Having people like Charles walk through our doors time and again is part of what makes us so grateful and humbled to be serving the Austin area. We’re honored that one of our Fords helped keep this man, a man who has served in keeping our nation out of harm’s way, safe …

Vehicle Flushing Tips

This week we took a few minutes to talk to our service tech expert Barry Beard at our Truck City Ford location. He’s the best at quick but handy tips, and this week he gave our viewers some advice on vehicle flushing! This pro makes working under the hood look like a breeze. Take a look, y’all! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLgK7J48Jyg&feature=youtu.be What to flush: Transmission Flush – Recommended every 30,000 miles. This is to keep the fluid clean and to keep all the detergents/oil. 2.    Brake Fluid- Brake fluid breaks down every two years, and/or 30,000 miles. It begins to naturally take on water. Brake fluid does attract moisture, so it’s very important to make sure you’re keeping it clean. 3. Coolant– Coolant breaks down, especially when you have a vehicle that tows often. You’ll also want to flush your coolant system roughly every 30,000 miles. There are some higher-grade coolants that will claim to work for over 100k miles, but this is not recommended by Ford. 4. Fuel injection service– You can’t see it as easily as the rest, but it is there! …

How to Protect Your Vehicle from the Cold

It may be 75 degrees in Austin today, but even in Texas it is bound to get chilly eventually. That’s why we’re here to give you some great tips on how to protect your vehicle from the cold! Read on and be winter ready, y’all! Check your battery. Battery issues are the number one reason for car breakdowns, and cold weather is especially likely to drain your battery life. Check your battery terminals and cables, making sure they’re tight and free from corrosion. Proceed to coat with grease or petroleum jelly to keep deposits from forming. If the battery looks swollen or casing is cracked, take your vehicle to your nearest Leif Johnson Ford service center to be checked right away. Monitor your tires Tire pressure drops considerably as the weather gets colder. This effects your car’s handling and stopping abilities. Check your tire pressure every month, and fill your tires properly with the amount listed on your driver’s side door jam. Check and change your oil. Colder temps cause oil to thicken, impeding its ability to travel …

What We’re Thankful For

This Thanksgiving we at Leif Johnson Ford are thankful for so many things. We’re thankful for our families, both our biological ones and the ones we’ve made ourselves out of amazing team members and customers. We’re thankful for food, and especially for the epic potlucks that our employees outdo themselves with each and every year. We’re also so thankful for the opportunity to give back to our fellow Austinities. One of our favorite ways to get back is by participating in Earning by Learning. Each year, our Ford team goes to different elementary schools to listen to kids talk about the books they’ve read. At the end of the year, the kids are rewarded with money for the amount of books completed. It’s such a fun way to inspire kids to read, and we have such an amazing time taking part in this and many other community activities. Last but not least? We’re thankful for YOU! Being your Austin Ford specialist is the greatest honor. Happy Thanksgiving, y’all!

Employee Highlights

Meet Larry Robinson. He’s our detail manager at Leif Johnson Ford, and is currently celebrating eight years of having worked with us. When asked what his favorite thing is, he smiles and tells us, “There’s a new challenge every day. There’s always something different, it’s never the same.” In his spare time, Mr. Robinson tells us that he loves to play golf, racquetball and basketball. One could say it really takes an eye for detail to skillfully play all of those sports (See what we did there?) It is his great energy, spirit and work ethic that make Larry such a great addition to our team. Meet our make ready crew. These guys help get our Fords spick, span and ready to go. We are so thankful for Vaughn House, a local nonprofit the helps deaf adults with disabilities find jobs, for helping us locate these amazing team members of ours. We know our LJF family would not be the same without their hard work and fantastic personalities. Teamwork is the ability to work together …

Two Years at Leif Johnson Ford

Yesterday I took a shotgun ride in probably the coolest car ever. The 2016 Ford Mustang, California Special Edition. The top was down, the wind was blowing in my hair and Taylor Swift was on the radio. The Mustang makes you feel like summer could go on forever. I’m Christina, the social media representative at Leif Johnson Ford. This means I am the blog writer, the social media updater, employee and customer interviewer and etcetera. It’s a fun gig, but it’s especially fun because of where I work and who I get to work with. I’ve made great friends and taken some great rides. Cruising around in F-150s, Mustangs, Fiestas and every Ford in between has taught me that these rides really are Built Ford Tough. Ford truly focuses on safety, reliability and innovation like no other car company. Did you know they’re working on an Apple watch to pair with and help control your car? Or that they’re developing a spider screen to keep the creepy crawlies out of your vehicle? Or that the 2015 F-150 …

Customer Highlights: Marcy Stellfox

Here at Leif Johnson Ford, our customers are built just as tough as our Fords. This week we had the honor of chatting with the lovely and big-hearted Mary Stellfox. She’s a self proclaimed hippie cowgirl with a passion for life, horses and her new F-150, Emma Jane. (Obviously her F-150 is a lady because, as Marcy puts it, she’s “Strong on the outside, beautiful on the inside.”) Read on to learn a little more about Marcy and the total rock-star that she is! Can you tell us how your love for horses began? : A big piece that fuels who I am is my love for animals. I’ve been a supporter, foster parent and volunteer for Heart of Texas Lab Rescue for several years. My dear friend, Margaret, President of HOTLR, suffered a terrible accident with a horse. After 3+ years of recovery, she was ready to get back in the saddle but wanted to start back at the basics. She needed a partner in crime, I agreed to join her and have never …
